Add Songs to P.R.O. AccountAfter joining a P.R.O., you must register each of your original songs to start collecting performance royalties. This process creates a database entry that allows your P.R.O. to track when and where your music is performed.
Important
Register songs as soon as possible after creation. You can only collect royalties for performances that occur after registration.
Basic Song Info:
- • Song title (exactly as it appears)
- • Alternative titles or versions
- • Duration of the song
- • Date of creation/completion
- • Genre classification
- • Language of lyrics
Writer & Publisher Info:
- • All writers and their percentages
- • Publisher name (if applicable)
- • Your ownership percentage
- • Co-writer contact information
- • Publishing split agreements
- • Writer's P.R.O. affiliations
Step 1: Access Your P.R.O. Account
Log into your ASCAP, BMI, or SESAC account and navigate to the song registration or repertoire section.
Step 2: Enter Song Details
Fill out the song registration form with accurate information. Double-check spelling of titles and names as these will be used for royalty matching.
Step 3: Specify Ownership
Clearly indicate your percentage of ownership and role (writer, composer, lyricist). If you have co-writers, ensure their information is accurate.
Step 4: Submit and Confirm
Review all information carefully before submitting. Save confirmation numbers and any reference codes for your records.
Register Early and Often
Register songs immediately after completion, even if they're not released yet.
Keep Detailed Records
Maintain a spreadsheet with all song registrations, confirmation numbers, and dates.
Coordinate with Co-Writers
Ensure all co-writers register the same song with consistent information.
Update When Necessary
Contact your P.R.O. if you need to update song information or ownership details.
